I could spend days looking at all of this. The embroideries are breathtaking. And why don't people dress like this any more? I would love to wear such a beautiful dress!
Beautiful. The picture of the room with the mannequin looks like a depiction of a doxato (the principal livingroom of a mansion of Kastoria). The woman's dress is very typical of the traditional dress of 19th century Kastoria, as is the little fez-like headress with the long tassle. I know this because my mother was born in Kastoria. Therè was a green silk dress in the family that had belonged to my maternal great grandmother and there is a picture of my mother wearing it as a teenager for a festival.
This is my favorite place in the Benaki!!
