I just bought my first kit today! I did cross stitch 20 years ago and always hated using a hoop because I didn’t like it gripping already stitched areas. What are your favorite supplies to hold your fabric?
First: happy stitching! You're back on a great journey. As for holding fabric: I use a hoop (or frame if the piece is small) and always use a stand to hold the hoop or frame. I rarely hold the hoop in my hand. I like stitching with 2 hands, and I like keeping my hands off of the project. Plus my hands don't get tired out by gripping a hoop. Try several things and use what feels best to you. Have fun!
I really like QSnaps--they're inexpensive and adjustable if you get extra sets of the bars. I use them with my Lowery workstand, but if I'm on the go, sometimes I hold them like I would an embroidery hoop. Happy stitching!
Don’t use a hoop, just try holding the fabric in your hand and use the sewing method; it’s really easy.

I agree with Krista….my set up is the same at my home! At my cottage I use a K’s Creation Z Frame lap stand along with a Q snap.
