Oh my word, so sorry I forgot to mention the colorfast issue! Yes, it's really only for projects that won't ever get washed (and, alas, in my house, that is absolutely nothing!). But if you were going to do a wall hanging that you could vacuum periodically in lieu of washing, then it would be great. I'm currently working on a Byzantine border band sampler design for a wall hanging that would be perfect for AVS :)
Au Ver a Soie is a 7-strand 100% silk floss. It works like DMC in that it's stranded, but there are 7 strands instead of 6. Many historic embroideries were worked with silk (both stranded and a looser kind of unstranded floss) and it can be very lovely. I don't offer it in my kits because of the higher cost (I checked with the company that makes AVS and they will only sell to one wholesaler in the US so I can't get the wholesale pricing that would make kits with silk floss affordable), however, you should be able to find it at your LNS (local needlework shop) and it's fabulous when you want something really special.
Lovely! And seeing your stitch-path is helpful. I've been pondering how to do the border and you seem to have the right idea. Thank you! Please keep posting photos of your progress.

So lovely. I’ve never worked with or seen AVS; may I ask how is it different from DMC?

Beautiful start!
Love these colors in the AVS!
