I used a bitkit and repeated the motif until it filled the fabric with an odd number of motif repetitions. The colors are my selection, not Krista’s. When I was talking to the friend who will get this, she said she wanted to start stitching again (she doesn’t know that I’m giving her a basket cover) and she said she wanted a pattern with a cross in the middle. So…I added a cross. I used a different, and ultimately too-bright, variegated yellow/gold in the center and it washed out the border yellow. So I added little bright yellow crosses along the border.
I give myself a B- on this one. I’ve done better color selection in my day, and I’m not happy with the pearl-cotton white backstitch but I’m on a birthday deadline so here it goes. I know she will love it. It’s going to have a plain hem unless I decide to line it. I’m very happy with doing the bit-kit in an expanded format.
I’m OK happy with it, overall. I learned a couple of lessons and did a decent “recovery”. The picture isn’t final product because I will be hemming it in the car on the way to give it to my friend. ☺️
I would be thrilled to receive a gift like this. And your colorway is fresh and very pretty. Don’t doubt your choices, they’re wonderful.
She did. ☺️
I think your changes are genius! Much more than just a "decent recovery".
It is lovely!
What a great gift! And great idea! And beautiful stitching! This is what folk stitching is all about -- creating your own variation from traditional motifs. Thank you for explaining your color selections (I think they are lovely) and pattern adaptations. Seeing this just made my day, and your friend is going to love it.
