Good evening - new stitcher here. I was inspired by my Ukrainian heritage (I have number of pieces that my Baba stitched) and a desire to have something to do to decompress from work and purchased the Ukrainian BitKit a little while ago. I’m almost done and have discovered I really enjoy this. I wish I would have learned this years ago! I am also enjoying seeing the pieces posted here - beautiful and inspiring work!
I made a lot of mistakes on the Ukrainian BitKit but have chalked them up to learning about what not to do. I have also learned that I need a better light and maybe different readers!
Now I am looking for a 2nd project/kit and thought I’d reach out to this community for any suggestions? There are so many Avlea patterns/kits that I like!
I'm in love with Daphni! There are only 3 colors, and it's a simple motif. Also, you can make it as large or small as you like and you'll have a beautiful finished piece.
Thank you for the help! I ended up getting both the Baltic Scroll and the Byzantine Rose BitKit since I couldn’t decide. I think both will help me practice making more regular, uniform stitches. Plus, I figured I could keep the BitKit in my office at work for decompressing between meetings. 😂
These are all good suggestions I think. I was going to suggest another BitKit such as Byzantine Rose, which in my opinion is a bit more intricate than the Ukrainian design, so you grow. And may I say welcome to the Avlea dilemma: which do I choose next? I find it to be something of a rabbit hole!
So funny--I was going to recommend the Baltic Scroll kit, too! It's a perfect jump from a BitKit to a standard-size project. If you want to challenge yourself a bit more with following charts, then any of the Grecian Urn series, Delphian Cornflower, or even Cypress Grove would be great. The stitching is the same, just more of it :)
I agree that the Baltic Scroll would be a larger, but not more difficult pattern for a second project.
Are you interesting in another BitKit, or in tackling something a little larger this time? If you want something larger, I found the Baltic Scroll to be a very good pattern for learning with. Having each row be just one color made for clear stitching, yet the result is so complex looking.
